Curling FAQ

How much will a game of curling cost?
It depends on what time of day you play. For Club members it's £6.50 during the day and £9.50 in the evening.
How long does a game last?
A game lasts about 2 hours but the tradition is that the winning team buys the losers a drink so you can add another 30 minutes to that.
What should I wear?
Loose fitting track suit type clothing with something warmer underneath is best. If you are sweeping a lot it can get quite warm and a layer that you can easily remove is ideal. Standing around during coaching can get chilly and the extra layer can then be very useful. If you join a club you will find that they have sweatshirts in club colours.
How long does it take to learn to curl?
A couple of coaching sessions, in total 2 hours, is probably enough to acquire the basics and begin to enjoy a game. Playing with others who are experienced is the best way to learn and any club will be happy to have you join in on some of their games.
Will it be difficult to stay on my feet on the ice, I cannot skate?
Curling ice does not have a wet or greasy surface so it is easy to keep your feet. When not playing your shot you will have a special gripper sole to help keep your balance.
Who can play?
From around 10 years of age and upwards everyone can play. We have After School Clubs, Junior Clubs, Ladies Clubs, Mixed Clubs and Wheelchair Curling Clubs
